Christian Casarotto

Bachelor’s Degree in Natural Science, Christian Casarotto devotes himself to geomorphology, geology of quaternary period and alpine environment evolution with its glacial dynamics. Nowadays, he is glaciologist and scientific communicator; he monitors alpine glacier also as part of Italian Glaciological Committee. He is involved in territorial studies of sustainable development through the valorisation of natural heritage.

The encounter with Christian Casarotto unfolds in motion, along the stretch of the Dolomites that leads from the Vajolet refuge to Cima Lausa. The Alpine landscape is observed as a place where the temporality of the Earth and that of human beings meet. Beyond the immediacy of the present and its apparent immobility, the Alps reveal an orographic dance of millennial duration, a continuous transformation in which glaciers play a fundamental role. These processes intertwine geological and climatic forces, bringing forth the Alps as a living archive, a subject to engage in dialogue with in order to recognise the fragility of connections and evolutionary processes. Maps, charts and other tools of visual representation are presented and identified as necessary instruments for understanding a landscape in constant motion.
