Daria Deflorian

Actress, writer, and director. After years of independent productions, since 2008 Daria Deflorian has been collaborating with Antonio Tagliarini. With their performances, presented in Italy and across Europe, they have received numerous awards, including the Ubu Prize for Best Play (2014), Best Foreign Production in Canada (2015), the Riccione Prize for Playwriting (2019), and the Hystrio Prize for Playwriting (2021). Their texts have been published by Titivillus, Cue Press, and Sossella Editore. Daria Deflorian was Associate Artist at the Triennale Milano for 2022–2024.

The iceberg evoked by Daria Deflorian brings with it questions concerning all that remains hidden, the offstage, the process, and what allows the iceberg to float.

The workshop takes the form of a seminar in which Deflorian shifts attention to the submerged part of the creative process and places writing in the space between the public and the private, through the working notebooks of previously realised performances and small materials produced together with the participant. She explores notions of time, space, distance and presence as articulated on stage.

Through her artistic practice, the relationship with others on stage emerges as a necessary condominium. She encourages the possibility of doing and saying the unsayable to move beyond autobiographical narration.
