Gli Impresari

Artistic collective actively researching those forms of artistic production resulting from intellectual speculation and technical innovations, which have guided and determined the development of our visual culture since the age of modernity. Their practice consists mainly of sculptures and installations – often activated by performances – inspired by a complex and varied imaginary, ranging from the marvellous effects obtained through theatrical machines, to the mediatic power of the first cinematic projections.

In dialogue with the participants, Rosario Sorbello and Edoardo Aruta introduce the artistic research of the collective, which focuses on forms of representation and visual culture. Gli Impresari’s practice consists primarily of sculptures and installations, often activated through performance, drawing on a complex and multifaceted imaginary, ranging from the effects of wonder produced by Baroque theatrical machines to the media power of the earliest experiments in the mechanical reproduction of images.

The proposal offered to participants is the construction of two self-supporting wooden wings, structures that relate both to the scenic space and to the representation of the landscape, engaging directly with the act of looking. Filled with straw, the wings are then lit like torches and burned at sunset.
