Rugilè Barzdžiukaitė

Rugilè Barzdžiukaitė is a Golden Lion winner for the best national pavilion at the Venice Biennale of Arts in 2019, for the collaborative performance Sun & Sea (Marina), a contemporary opera that she directed. In parallel to this, her documentary, Acid Forest, was premiered and received an award at the Locarno International Film Festival in 2018 after 5 years of production.

Acid Forest is the Lithuanian artist’s documentary about a macabre tourist attraction: a dying, leafless forest invaded by thousands of cormorants. In this strip of land between Lithuania and Russia, the oversized population of large birds threatens the entire ecosystem. Through hypnotic footage and a post-apocalyptic imaginary, the film narrates the power relations that emerge between birds, trees and human beings.

The screening was part of the Public Programme 2022, the cycle of public events of the Nomadic School. The film was screened at sunset on the roof of the Little Fun Palace roulotte.
