Rut Bernardi + Stefano Riba

Rut Bernardi, a native Ladin speaker, is a writer, translator, and journalist. She studied Romance languages and literatures in Innsbruck and has taught Romansh at universities in Zurich, Innsbruck, Munich, Mannheim, and Bolzano. She publishes in Ladin and German and currently teaches at the Free University of Bozen. Since June 2021, she has been president of SAAV – the South Tyrolean Authors Association.

Stefano Riba is a cultural producer working across curating, project management, exhibition installation, and writing. After early institutional collaborations with major museums, biennials, and art magazines, his practice shifted toward independent cultural production focused on young creatives and social, political, and environmental issues. Based in Bolzano, he collaborates with academic and cultural institutions.

Starting from the essential relationship between language and landscape, Rut Bernardi and Stefano Riba engage in a dialogue with the audience to explore Ladin, following a trajectory that moves from words and mythical narratives toward the present and its complexities.
What is Ladin today, and how is it lived? What kinds of relationships does it weave with natural elements, valleys, and the environments it inhabits?

The Lecture was part of the Public Programme 2024, the cycle of public events of the Nomadic School, and took place at Ütia de Pütia, Passo delle Erbe / Würzjoch – Val Badia (BZ).
