B-MOVIES | Carolina Cappelli
Horror cinema and feminine
Conceived as an open moment of exchange, preparatory to artistic research, the workshop led by Carolina Cappelli—participant in the Nomadic School 2020—unfolds through an introduction to genre cinema and gender roles, inviting a collective reflection on the representation of female characters and on the figure of the female spectator in horror cinema.
The session concludes with small embodied practices aimed at reclaiming fear, through the sharing of approaches the artist employs in her performance work. The workshop is part of the artist’s residency for the performative project B-MOVIES.
B-MOVIES is a performance project that revolves around the construction of a film made by and about female secondary characters and their progressive taking of positions within the frame. The project investigates the links between genre movies and gender issues and focuses on one type of film that is controversially related to the female body: horror movies.
The project is supported by Creatività Contemporanea of the Italian Ministry of Culture under the Italian Council program (2024).
